Install the app

One app for Windows, macOS, Linux and Android. What each download is, which one to pick, and what the app does on first launch.

Desktop appAndroid app

The app is the same on every platform: it draws the game screens itself, keeps your saved servers and sign-ins, and carries a complete server inside it so it can host a world of its own. The current release is v0.17.2, published 2026-10-11. Every build is free, MIT licensed and served from GitHub releases; the Android app is also headed for Google Play.

What the installers set up

  • The odm:// link handler. Every installer registers it with the operating system, so clicking an invite link a friend sent opens the app straight on the join screen. On Android the app also claims opendungeonmaster.com/j links once the Play listing's signing certificate is verified.
  • A private data folder. Saved servers, sign-in tokens (kept in the OS keychain where one exists) and your live in the app's own data folder, never inside the install location. Reinstalling or updating keeps them.
  • The bundled server. On first start the app copies its server out of the read-only install into that data folder, so an or a Play install can write to its own world.

What you see on first launch

The title screen, never a sign-in form. A first run shows Begin your world with one button, Start playing, beside a menu with Join with a code and Add a server for anyone who was sent an invite. Naming your adventurer creates your and makes you its owner; then the app asks who runs your games (a human, your OpenAI key, or on a desktop a local model or an agent you already have). A short walks the title screen once and can be replayed from Settings.

The desktop home screen: a Continue card for the last campaign with an Enter world button, tiles for New campaign, Solo adventure, Characters, Workshop and Join with a code, and the campaign list with cover art The same home screen on a phone, stacked: the Continue card, then the tiles
Home on a desktop and on a phone. The same tiles, the same campaigns, drawn for the screen you have.
