Accounts, friends and notifications

What an account is on each kind of world, your profile and password, Discord sign-in, friends and online presence, the notification bell, session reminders, and deleting your account with its grace period.

There is no Open Dungeon Master account in the cloud. An account lives on one server, and a server can be your own device, a friend's, or a machine somebody administers. The app keeps a sign-in per saved server, so switching worlds never means signing out.

Three kinds of account

  • Your own . Naming your adventurer creates the owner account. No password is asked for; you can add one later from the world's Account settings so a browser on the same machine can sign in.
  • A guest on an app-hosted world. A name and the . There is no password and no sign-up policy; the app keeps a key for your seat and renews it silently. If the host removes your seat you join again with a name.
  • An account on a self-hosted server. Username and password, or Discord if the server offers it. The administrator decides whether are open, need an , or are closed. A live room code from a campaign vouches for you on an invite-only server. A Discord-only account can set a password later from Settings, which is what the apps need to sign in. The very first account on a fresh server, its administrator, also needs the server's one-time (see First run and accounts).

Profile and Account settings

Account settings (the account menu, top right of every page) hold your profile picture, your , the day or and , , and chime preferences, your password, a Discord link, , and delete account. Character portraits are set on each character, not here.

Friends

Friends are relationships between two accounts on the same server. Add someone by their exact username; a miss and a hit look identical so the list cannot be fished. Friends show an online dot in the party panel and on the friends page, and an invite to campaign action delivers a straight to their bell.

Notifications

The bell in the header collects invitations, session reminders (an hour before a scheduled session and at its start), a nudge after four quiet days, and mentions. They arrive live while a page is open; in a browser, a desktop notification is raised only if you granted permission, the tab is hidden, and the panel is closed. The Android app currently shows one system notification of its own, while your phone is hosting a shared world.

Switching servers

Inside a world, the account menu has App home back to the app's title screen, App settings and the App guide. The title screen lists your tables as save slots grouped by host; a menu beside each server offers Forget this server and Delete my account on this server. About this server in the account menu shows the server's exact version, its build, and whether a newer release is out, with a button that copies it all for a bug report.

Deleting your account

Account settings offers Delete account. The request signs you out on every device and schedules the purge after a grace period the server's administrator set (0 to 90 days, 14 by default; the confirmation states the exact number). Signing in before the date shows a banner with Keep my account, which calls it off. The purge removes the account and everything it owns: campaigns and , seats and sheets, library characters and , , notes, private threads, friendships, notifications, and any avatar and portrait files nothing else uses. Messages written at other people's tables keep their words with the author link cut; , and scheduled sessions you made in someone else's campaign pass to that campaign's owner. The app offers the same flow per saved server, and the site's account deletion page explains it for the Play Store listing.
