First launch

What the desktop app shows the first time: the title screen, Begin your world, naming your adventurer, the Story AI screen, the main menu and save slots, the guided tour, the drawer of saved servers, and the app's Settings.

Desktop app

The app opens on its own title screen. It is never a sign-in form: signing in belongs to each world, and a first run has no world yet.

Begin your world

The title reads Begin your world: "No server needed. Your world lives on this computer, and friends can join from anywhere once you invite them." Press Start playing. Beside it, the main menu offers Join with a code and Add a server for anyone who was sent an invite; the rest of the menu opens once your world exists.

Name your adventurer

One field: the name friends will see at the table. Letters, digits, underscore and dash, up to 24 characters. The app creates the world on this computer, makes this account its owner, and keeps the password for you; you can set your own later in the world's Account settings. There is nothing to verify and no email.

Who runs your games?

The Story AI screen asks once for the whole computer:

  • A . No AI at all.
  • AI Dungeon Master via your OpenAI . and pictures billed to your key, no GPU needed. Paste the key, keep or change the two model names, done.
  • An agent you already have. Claude Code, Codex, opencode or Grok Build narrates on its own sign-in. The screen shows which are installed and signed in.
  • Local AI on this machine. A guided install sized to your hardware. Needs a capable machine.

Pick the human option if you are not sure; the Story AI button on the home screen reopens this screen any time. Details in Story AI on the desktop.

Enter your world

The title now reads This computer, "Playing as" your name with the bundled server's version, and Enter your world opens the world. The main menu grows New campaign, , Characters, , and Story AI. Once you have played, the table you were last at fills the screen behind Continue, with its latest scene, the party's faces and a "When last we left" , and your other tables sit below as save slots grouped by host. Inside a world the game's pages own the whole window; the account menu's App home, App settings and App guide lead back to the app.

The front door of a self-hosted server: a painting of a dark fantasy castle with fireflies on the left, and the Log in and Create account form with Sign in with Discord on the right
A self-hosted server's front door. Your own skips this: the app signs you in.

The guided tour

A spotlight walks the title screen once on first launch, one door at a time with a card explaining it. Replay it from Settings, Help, Replay tour. The table and the have their own tours the first time you see them.

The drawer

The menu at the top left opens the drawer: every saved server with its campaigns and covers, a hide offline switch, and beside each server's name a menu with Forget this server and Delete my account on this server. On a wide window the drawer becomes a fixed rail.

Settings
