Human DM mode

Running the table yourself: seating a person as the Dungeon Master, what the seat sees, narrating and speaking as NPCs, roll visibility, story beats, and how the AI stays out of the way.

Desktop appAndroid appBrowser

A campaign can seat a person as the Dungeon Master. The AI narrator goes silent, player actions queue for you instead of waking a , and the app keeps doing what it does at any table: sheets, dice, , conditions, maps, the record. You narrate; it referees.

Taking the seat

Create the campaign with a human narrator, or from the lobby's party list, make DM on any member. The seat holder runs no character and takes no party slot. follows the seat: settings, rules, , voice breakouts and the story tools belong to the Dungeon Master, not the . A DM can open the table without owning the campaign, and can build a companion for a party of two or more. Make gives an assistant the console beside you.

What the seat sees

  • The , if you wrote one, and the 's beats.
  • Real enemy numbers: hit points, armour class, the stat block, the legendary actions left.
  • The unfogged map, every token, and a DM-only overlay image on prepared maps.
  • The DM-only side of (secret blocks), the DM of each , and private notes.

Who sees what is one rule in the app, so the party's view never leaks the DM's.

Narrating

The narrate bar replaces the message box. Type a passage and send: it enters the as the Dungeon Master, is if narration is on, and can speak as an from the cast so the line carries their name, portrait and voice. unroll from with Show this now, dressed as parchment or a notice. mark , fights and rests. Theatre inserts put a face over the scene when you speak as someone.

Running a fight

Starting a fight from the console, or deploying a prepared one, asks every fielded character for ; the server rolls for players who let it, and the last roll locks the order. When the order reaches enemies, the fight holds for you and their arrives as monster cards above the message box: each enemy's attacks and abilities, with Play the rest for me (the AI plays them) and Hand on the turn. An AI companion whose turn comes up gets Play their turn. End awards the experience, writes the summary and changes the music.

Whispers and dictation

A player's private message to you lands in the Whispers to you inbox in the Chat tab, with replies inline, and the console's waiting queue lists everything that wants an answer. Every prose field you write in (summaries, notes, edits, the console and the editors) has a microphone for dictation: the words are added for you to check, and nothing saves on its own. It uses the server's , the built-in Whisper, OpenAI on the server's key, or the phone's own recognizer in the Android app.

Rolls

Ask for a roll and the app requests it from the player, with their honoured; a hidden request answered with real dice stays hidden. Your own rolls have four visibilities: public, DM-only, blind (the player rolls, only you see the result) and self. A hidden roll is redacted rather than absent, so the table still sees that a roll happened.

Story beats

Between passages a cadence nudge asks you to jot the beat that just happened. Beats feed the same summaries, (a human table gets the "Previously" recap too) and exports an AI table gets, and Beat achieved counts toward closing the chapter. With on (a server setting, needs a speech-to-text backend), what was said aloud drafts the beats for you.

What the AI can still do

Nothing, unless you ask. hands it the monsters' turns, a , or a counted stretch of answers while you step away, each opt-in at the moment of use. See Assisted mode. stays available to players and answers from the you have written.
